*NEW* Health Coverage Through HealthSource RI Is Now More Affordable Than Ever

A new law passed by the federal government will ensure most HealthSource RI (HSRI) customers receive additional financial help to make their health coverage more affordable. The changes made by this law mean that most HSRI customers will see a decrease in their monthly coverage costs.

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARP) was recently signed by President Biden to help Americans during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you are already receiving tax credits/financial help each month to reduce your monthly coverage cost, you are likely to receive even more financial help in the coming weeks. If you were not eligible to receive financial help in the past, you may soon be eligible. The ARP also increases the income limit on who can qualify for tax credits and now more people will qualify for financial help.

Additionally, if you, or a member of your household, received unemployment income in 2021, you will be eligible for the maximum amount of tax credits for the rest of this year. We are working hard to ensure these updates are made quickly to all customer accounts. Click here to learn more!

HealthSource RI and How We Serve Rhode Island

HealthSource RI (HSRI) is the state’s health insurance marketplace created in 2013 as part of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA, sometimes referred to as Obamacare). HSRI is a division of the RI Department of Administration. We offer unbiased support to help Rhode Islanders connect with high-quality, low- or no-cost coverage from top insurers. Because of our “No Wrong Door” approach, we also work to help customers enroll in Medicaid if they are eligible. We are the only source for Rhode Islanders to find financial assistance (including premium tax credits and cost-sharing) to help pay for monthly premiums.

In fact, 8 out of 10 HSRI customers receive financial help. Since 2013, HSRI has connected Rhode Islanders to $650MM+ in financial assistance, which helps protect the majority of customers from rising health insurance rates. Rhode Island has one of the highest insured rates in the nation, with 96% of Rhode Islanders having health coverage. Since the implementation of the ACA, the uninsured rate in Rhode Island has decreased by two-thirds and our market stability efforts have protected this progress, helping limit annual plan cost increases.

Open Enrollment Period (OE)

HealthSource RI offers Rhode Island individuals and families an annual opportunity to enroll in health coverage through our Open Enrollment period (OE). Rhode Islanders can enroll during OE, typically held November-December, or at other times of year if they have a qualifying

New Enrollment Period (NEP)

HealthSource RI is currently offering Rhode Islanders more time to enroll in 2021 health coverage through our New Enrollment Period (NEP). The NEP began on February 15, 2021 and ends August 15, 2021. This NEP is open to eligible Rhode Islanders and coverage starts the first of the month following a complete enrollment. How The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Benefits Most HealthSource RI Customers

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) provides an additional $30MM in financial assistance to HealthSource RI (HSRI) customers and eligible Rhode Islanders. Eligible Rhode Islanders will receive increased tax credits to help reduce their monthly coverage costs through HSRI, and most customers will qualify for this additional financial help.
